If You Give A Writer An Idea

By Heather Kreke @HKreke

If you give a writer an idea, they are going to want a note pad to go with it.

When they get the note pad, they are going to need a pen.

Once they have the pen and note pad, they are going to start writing.

As they write, they will be reminded they are lacking the necessary caffeine to properly generate words.

They will want a cup of coffee.

When you give them coffee, they will need cream to go with it.

They will go to the fridge to get some.

Standing at the fridge will make them hungry.

They will want some chocolate.

Seeing the chocolate will remind them of a chocolate stain on one of their shirts.

They will have to do their laundry.

Once in the laundry room, they will see a pile of unwashed clothes.

They will do all of the laundry in the house.

While folding the laundry, they will notice the floor needs swept.

They will sweep the floors.

When putting the broom away, they will see the mop.

They will mop the floors.

Mopping the floors will make them tired.

They will sit on the couch and watch a TV show.

Watching a show will make them feel cooped up.

They will want to go outside.

It will be sunny outside so they will have to find their sunglasses.

Looking for their sunglasses will remind them they couldn’t find their car keys.

They will tear the house apart looking for their keys.

When they find their keys, they will think of driving. Which will remind them they need to go to the store.

At the store they will see coffee.

Coffee will remind them they need some caffeine.

Caffeine will remind them of writing and chances are if they start thinking of writing, they are going to get an idea.

Heather, I loved this post. It should be required reading at all writers conferences. It’s so very true! I L O V E to write, so why do I suddenly prefer doing the laundry or putting away dishes when I have a deadline?!
