Rest

By DiAnn Mills @diannmills

Welcome to week eight of Faith Friday in our Adventure with God. The letter R stands for rest. I hear you laughing. Who rests in today’s world? While technology makes our lives easier, it also provides more ways for us to spend time.

The disturbances and heartaches that rob us of rest and peace are as old as time.

  • Families break up and the values we treasure are seemingly destroyed.
  • Jobs are eliminated and we face financial ruin. A regular source of income becomes our God.
  • Health issues stop us in our tracks.
  • Our writing fails to satisfy our inner longings. We want to give up.
  • Our children are rebellious.
  • Instant news from around the world gives us real-time happenings, and unfortunately the evil and the ugly grab our
  • Our world’s woes appear overwhelming.
  • Nature deals us incredible devastation.

Jesus says in Mark 6:31 ESV, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.”

How do we find that precious rest? The truth is the gift is supernatural. We have a God who has no boundaries. Begin now to give your joys, triumphs, and dreams to God. Let Him guide you to peace and rest.

Meditate on His Word. Pray through the Scriptures. The Psalms glorify Him while our soul finds divine rest.

“May the Lord give strength to his people! May the Lord bless his people with peace!” Psalm 29:11 ESV

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27 ESV

Prayer – Heavenly Father, it is so difficult to rest in this busy world. So many things pull and tug at us. What joy to realize true rest comes in snuggling close to you, our Father. Amen

Reflection – When we come to our Lord and Savior with our interrupted peace, He gives our souls rest.
