Welcome to week six of Faith Friday in our Adventure with God. The letter T stands for tears. We weep when the happenings of our lives disappoint us, and we are crushed by what we experience.
Many times, in our sorrow, we question God’s love. How could He allow us to feel so utterly miserable? What good can come of our anguish and suffering? Why, God, do I spend so many hours writing only to face rejection? We’ve served God faithfully all these years, and He acknowledges us with a tragedy or rejection?
Let’s be honest. We’ve all wondered where God fits in the heartache. Well-meaning people instruct us to resist feeling sorry for ourselves, to get over whatever has made us sad, as though the emotion God gave us is not worthy.
I like what Charles Dickens wrote in Great Expectations:
“Heaven knows we need never be ashamed of our tears, for they are rain upon the blinding dust of earth, overlying our hard hearts.”
Albert Smith states, “Tears are the safety valve of the heart when too much pressure is laid on it.”
Perhaps God uses tears to flood us with spiritual growth. When all we have is desperation, and when all we can do is hold onto the Father’s hand, our relationship with Him is strengthened—as though our tears are spiritual glue in the healing process.
Prayer – Heavenly Father, I thank You for the many times You have dried my tears with Your Word. Your love cleanses my sin and gives me peace. Amen
Reflection – The Psalmist says it so beautifully in Psalm 126:5.
Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy!
“You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?” Psalms 56:8

Hi DiAnn, I relate to this heartfelt post. It can be hard to process our own tears as well as those of others. I grew up in a church where your feelings were irrelevant. Suppressing them only makes the eventual deluge worse. Thank you for beautifully reminding us of the importance of our tears.
