Acrostic’s are key—at least when I speak and teach. As I stand in front of the audience, Attention Deficit can creep in and take me down bunny trails. I find it difficult to get back on track without my acrostic. The ladies find it easier to remember the teaching also.
Like teaching, I sometimes lose focus when I pray. I make a grocery list in my head or thinking of dialog for my character.
Speaking to the Creator of the universe is a privilege. I desire to storm the gates of Heaven on behalf of myself, family, and my writer friends. How do I stay focused? You guessed it—an acrostic.
The W.R.I.T.E. Prayer:
W- Word of God

W- Word of God
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV
When we approach our keyboard, we desire an attitude ready to hear from God. Praying the Scriptures will reveal any indifference or anxiety that interferes with listening to the Spirit. What concerns you today? Look at a concordance and find related Scriptures. Pray and trust God will move on your behalf.
R- Reader
My prayer is not for them alone. I also pray for those who will believe in me through their message, John 17:20 NIV
We pray for readers to be moved and changed by our writing. We may never know the results of our offering until we get to Heaven. Trust God for the outcome. After all, He knew who will read it before time began.
I-Inspiration
The Lord will guide you always Isaiah 58:11 NIV
We can pray for inspiration throughout our day. God will lead us to events, conversations, and situations to ignite ideas—even during difficult times he will call on us to stop, look, listen, and write. Trust his promise.
T-Thanksgiving
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NIV
Writer’s block can leave us discouraged, our head in our hand, wanting to pull our hair out. What can we do during our time of angst? Throw a Block Party with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Thank God for enabling us to write for His Kingdom. Thank Him for the friendships formed as a writer. Thank Him for writer’s block, and take this time to worship Him. We are not blocked; we have an all access pass to the throne room of God. The ultimate goal in life is not to complete our manuscript, article, or blog; our main aim is Jesus; in finding Him, our anxiety lifts with our praises. Time is never wasted acknowledging the one in whom we find purpose.
E-Expectantly- James 1:6-7
Call to me and I will answer you Jeremiah 33:3 ESV
Expect God to answer your prayer in accordance to His good pleasing and perfect will. God called you to write, so whether you are a fiction or nonfiction writer, expect that he has a unique message only you can give, and wants to use you as a conduit to proclaim it.
Prayer is our connection to the power source—God. Prayer is constant contact with the one who loves us and proved it my writing our names on the palm of His hand.
Let’s join together as writers, in prayer against our enemy who tries to distract us from the work we are called to do—glorify God in all we think do, say and write.
May this acrostic help you focus as you prayer. Know that I am praying The W.R.I.T.E. Prayer for each of you.
