How Writers Celebrate Meeting Deadlines

By DiAnn Mills @DiAnnMills

Last week I wrote about How Writers Approach Deadlines, how a professional writer creates quality books while meeting contractual targets. Writers establish good organizational habits the moment they choose to open the door to goals and dreams and plan how to make them happen.

We work hard.

Then the time comes to play.

When we writers hit “send” and our work is off to the publisher, how do we reward ourselves?

I talked to some of my writer friends and learned how they have a good time when the calendar and a finished protect share the same date.

Lynette Eason

Thank God then move on to the next story in the line up.
I bet Lynette’s dancing around her kitchen and sipping on hot chocolate.

Julie Garmon

By getting a large lemonade from Chick-Fil-A. Or I make a cup of afternoon coffee.
I bet Julie is walking through her woods with her dogs, just feasting on nature.

Bethany Jett

As a family, we celebrate by getting frozen yogurt.
I bet Bethany is developing a spreadsheet to keep her writing organized.

Edie Melson

Enjoy dinner out with husband or other writer buddies.
I bet Edie is designing her next meme or social media post.

Alycia Morales

Take a day off to refresh and breathe satisfaction.
I bet Alycia is diving into the thought process of her next project or finishing up an editing job.

DiAnn Mills

Cooking, baking, and standing on my desk (not literally) shouting yes!
I tend to be a bit hyper, so I’m diving into cleaning closets, pulling weeds from the flower beds, thinking about the story I’ve just finished, and playing with a new idea. Did anyone say Starbucks?

Writers, it’s your turn. We can have fun together. Share with us how you celebrate meeting a deadline.
